Supply and Fit

Brief:

Firesmart was tasked with a comprehensive fire door installation at Molten House, located within the Barnsbury Estate in North London. The project involved the installation of 45 flat entry doors or FED’s across occupied flats to enhance security and compliance with fire regulations.

Challenges:

The primary challenge was operating in an occupied residential environment. Residents’ safety and convenience had to be prioritised, necessitating precise planning and minimal disruption during the installation process.

Solution:

We coordinated closely with estate management to create a timetable that addressed residents’ concerns. The installation was carried out in phases, ensuring that only a few flats were affected at any given time. The doors were removed and fully installed on the same day to always leave the flat fully compliant.

A key requirement for the client was that we implemented an effective booking system, with initial letters to introduce the company and outline the expectations for the installation. We then followed up with emails and calls to make bookings over a 3-week period, successfully signing off on 3 doors each day and issuing certification for the doors in real-time.

Results:

From survey to manufacture, the 45 door sets and side panels were completed in 5 weeks. The manufactured doors were held in our specific holding warehouse, where our fitters could collect them daily and return the old doors and debris to onsite waste containers. The installation took 3 weeks, during which we issued certification of manufacture via a data pin held on the door set that captures the golden thread.

This successful installation transformed the estate’s fire safety infrastructure, significantly enhancing the overall safety for residents. Feedback from the estate’s management highlighted the professionalism and efficiency of the FireSmart team, leading to further recommendations for safety improvements within the borough.
